This is what Jesus meant when He said, “If anyone comes to me and does
not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and
sisters--yes, even their own life--such a person cannot be my disciple”
(Luke 14:26). He wasn’t trying to be mean or harsh, He was simply saying
they might not be right. He was saying we must have the willingness to
follow Him regardless of the cost – regardless of what our parents
taught us (or didn’t teach us) about spiritual things. He was saying we
must follow the whisper of Truth wherever it leads us.
Our families love us and want the best for us but we must be willing to follow Truth – even if it leads us outside the camp.
“And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.” – John 10:4
