Imagine you have invited a very
special guest over to your house. A long time before the special day
you send him a long letter which gives him detailed turn-by-turn
instructions on how to get to your house. You spend a long time on the
letter - you even write down examples of other people who have tried to
get to your house but took wrong turns. In the letter you also write
about how excited you are to see him and how much you care about him. You
give him an open invitation to invite as many of his friends as he
wants to. You mail the letter - Certified Mail with proof of delivery.
When the big day arrives, you can't even contain your excitement. You
have prepared a table - a feast with only the best of everything. No
expense has been spared. Your heart is full of love and anticipation of
what the day may bring. Then, the phone rings. It is your special guest!
But he sounds scared. Confused. Lost.
He asks you for directions.
"Directions? Didn't you receive my letter?"
Your special guest replies, "I did, but I just skimmed through it and then got sidetracked. I've just been so busy lately."
You are heartbroken. Your special guest took a series of wrong turns and is such a long way off he will never find his way in time.
Many people are waiting for a phone call from God when He has already sent them a Letter.
